BENJAMIN CORNELIUS JR. HOUSE:  2314 19TH AVENUE

Tour this circa 1873 home, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Enjoy music by Dale Winterfield and historic reenactments of people associated with this beautiful property.

All character defining historic features and trim are fully evident! Original features include 10’ ceilings, lath and plaster, precast floral medallions, Douglas fir floors, wood picture rails, glass transoms and doors, fir stair risers and tread with imported mahogany balusters and newels, while the handrail is milled maple.

Benjamin and his future wife Rachel McKinny met as children on the wagon trail in 1845, grew up on Washington County family land claims, married in 1852 and moved to Forest Grove in 1872 for the educational advantages of the Tualatin Academy and Pacific University.

Learn the sad fate of Mr Cornelius and hear the story of an early Oregon architect, who built the first church in Forest Grove and several other extant homes.

A suggested donation of $10 supports Friends of Historic Forest Grove and can be made by credit card online at this link or by cash or check at the event.
